Dream Start for Chambers in the NCAA!

SSU's, 6 ft 2, Republic of Ireland youth international goalkeeper, Corey Chambers, started his NCAA D1 collegiate career on Friday night in Fairfax, Virginia. The Freshman goalkeeper from Wexford, produced a commanding display to help his George Mason Patriots to a 2-1 win at home to the #19 ranked Coastal Carolina.

Corey recorded 4 saves on the night, but more impressively he provided the assist for the Patriots game winning goal. A huge diagonal pass from the #18 stopper, fed Mason's senior striker Henning Dirks who cooly finished from 15 yards. Coastal Carolina just 12 months ago were eliminated in the last 32 round of the NCAA College Cup, by Wake Forest, the eventual runners up.

Friday Night Lights, is a great way to start the season especially playing a top 25 nationally ranked team in your own backyard. George Mason stood up to the challenge of Coastal and produced a display that will give them great confidence going into tonights game with American University. American University lost their opening game 2-0 against Georgetown, but they must not be underestimated as they are an experienced side who won the Patriot League regular season championship, only to fall 5-4 on penalties in the tournament championship game.

Check out the recap from the game from George Mason's point of view, here. You can also see what Coastal Carolina made of the match up by clicking here. Corey and the Patriots will be in action again this evening as they take on American University, with the game scheduled to start at 7pm Eastern time.
